These are two new friction folders that I think they will come out great. Right now I’m checking tolerances and mechanism so the next step is to proceed for grinding the blades to the final shape.

I’m very happy and pleased to so thiese projects since they are very niec and the D2 carbon steel is one of my favourite since it is an excellent cutting steel. Usually people that demands of this D-2 steel is a user that loves to use the friction folders for cutting and for great performance in these kind of tasks.

Btw this is the first one that will have more than 9cm (3.54″) of cutting edge, a beast.

And this is a folder that is for my friend over the atlantic sea. I slightly modified the point to have better strength and more cutting power. Because it’s quite compact, about 7.5cm (around 3″), moreover in this design I can make a swedge .
I hope that my customer will like it!

These are the rough shapes of two new friction folders that are coming out.
Right now are only roughly cutted and hand satin finished to a 600 grit. It’s a lot of work from now but for sure they will be great folders, since the steel is a 4mm (.157″) D2, and they will be finished in black.

One will be about 9,5cm edge (3.8″ about) with a santoku inspired shape. A small monster.
The other is about 7,5cm (3″) blade based on my other Nemo Friction Folder. Since I love to make unique projects and I love to always improve this one has a slightly different point shape. More classic and I think more utilitarian, hope will like to my friend.

Here it is!
A new year is born and in this 2011 Bro Workshop will make new projects. All kind of creative project I’m sure will be boosted from quality and quantity side.

I’m very positive, and if I think about colours, flavours, sensations aboout the 2011 I think it will be great. I have great ideas about making always unique and only projects. Without compromises.
Just some good wishes for this year.
For folders:
I will try to continue in making excellent friction folders first.
Then I’m studying and experimenting in making slipjoint in the old fashionable way and also in my way with new solutions and materials. Maybe also some folders with a lock. I prefer back locks… Time will come and will tell.
For Fixed blades:
i will try to use even more care and quality, searching always the best woods and composites materials, using the best steel around the world. I love, really love to do fixed blades that are working and that are unique, rare, fitting like a glove in the hands, and cutting like a laser.
For more:
my anvil is awaiting to forge some damascus. Soon I will go to take suggestions from a master baldesmith that will help me also in this research. Making damascus, even the simpler one or a simple san-mai, is always something exciting and beatiful. And of course it adds more unicity to every project of mine.

For the past year I only say thank you to my girlfriend and nextcoming wife. She’s the one that had given to me unlimited support in every effort of my life and all I have and all I am now is dedited to her.

Love.

Here it is my very first friction folder. A true love. With this friction folder I discovered the pleasure of simplicity, ease and performance. It is not so well made with today eyes but, I love it.
It was made with good old O2 carbon steel, that is something rusty, but cuts with ease with his scandi to zero bevel so you can sharpen also in the stones you find in country paths…
Maroon and white micarta made by me, full of small error. It was also like a Frankestein I discovered how and why sharpening, filing, grinding, screwing… Everything. Still works and serve.
Friction folders are magical because less you put into to build, the more they last!

The history of this knife is strange. It should be my personal knife, but I decided later to not keep with me this jewel. It is sturdy, compact and powerful like a medium tank. I really love this friction folder.

Blade is an excellent 5mm (.196″) 1095 carbon steel sporting a gorgeous hamon or temper line. It is scary sharp, pop off hairs with ease. Still is strong with his high sabre ground. Handles are in Jade G1o, with Orange G10 backspacer and stainless steel pivots and pins.

Size is 7,6cm blade (3″), handles are 10cm (3.93″).
